Wine glasses



In the past, wine glasses of crystal and of high degree of brilliance achieved by adding lead, or referring to cut glass. Today, the term "crystal" can refer to the molten colorless glass which lies in the ceramic pot inside the furnace. We also speak of leadfree crystal or "eco-kristall". A brilliant glass which does not contain lead. Crystal glass, full and lead - Full lead crystal or crystal superieur contains 30% lead. Half lead crystal contain 24% lead.

Lead crystal glass, (also called crystal), is lead glass that has been hand or machine cut with facets. Lead oxide added to the molten glass gives lead crystal a much higher index of refraction than normal glass, and consequently much greater "sparkle". Lead crystal glass stemware contaminate the liquid with lead. Be carful to use lead crystal glass decanters for your wine, during longer times.

Famous makers of leadfree crystal objects include Orrefors (glasses above) from sweden. Famous makers of lead crystal objects include Royal Leerdam Crystal of the Netherlands, Nambé and Steuben Glass in the United States, Waterford Crystal in Ireland, and Swarovski in Austria.
